Square & Rectangular Tube
Use this hollow-section RFQ when drawings, section dimensions, wall tolerance, corner profile, fabrication and surface finish determine whether supplier quotes are comparable.

Hollow-section forming, fabrication and tolerance checkpoints
This explains the checkpoints a buyer should verify. It does not claim that KeelGauge manufactures the product or that every supplier uses the same route.
- 01
Verify coil grade, slit width, heat traceability, and section design input.
- 02
Form the strip and complete the longitudinal weld.
- 03
Size the tube into the required square or rectangular section and corner profile.
- 04
Straighten, cut, and control section dimensions, twist, radius, and tolerance.
- 05
Complete punching, drilling, welding, labeling, or cut-length processing when agreed.
- 06
Apply black, painted, pre-galvanized, or hot-dip galvanized surface and export packing.

Square & Rectangular Tube RFQ FAQ
Answers are procurement guidance. Final compliance depends on the selected supplier, product scope, documents, and contract.
Which dimensions should be included for square or rectangular tube?
Provide outside width and height, nominal and permitted wall thickness, length, corner radius or section standard, straightness and twist limits, steel grade, surface, and quantity. Attach a drawing for holes, slots, welded parts, cut angles, labels, or any tolerance that is stricter than the referenced standard.
Can fabricated hollow sections be compared by finished-piece price?
Yes. For repeat parts, supply a controlled drawing, annual and batch quantity, material, hole and weld details, surface finish, inspection plan, packing orientation, and acceptance tolerances. Quotes should separate raw tube, processing, tooling, coating, inspection and packing so commercial differences remain visible.
How is theoretical square tube weight used in an RFQ?
Theoretical weight helps estimate tonnage, freight and quote consistency, but corner radii, dimensional tolerance and coating can change actual mass. Use the calculator for planning, then require the supplier to state its contractual weight basis, permitted tolerance and whether invoicing follows theoretical or actual weighbridge weight.
Standards, listings, MTCs, coating records, inspection reports, and project references must belong to the applicable selected supplier and product scope.
