Galvanized steel pipe coating and export checkpoints
This explains the checkpoints a buyer should verify. It does not claim that KeelGauge manufactures the product or that every supplier uses the same route.
- 01
Select and inspect the applicable ERW or structural base tube.
- 02
Prepare the surface through degreasing, pickling, rinsing, and fluxing as applicable.
- 03
Complete hot-dip galvanizing or confirm the pre-galvanized production route.
- 04
Control zinc drainage, cooling, appearance, coating mass, or micron expectation.
- 05
Finish cutting, threading, grooving, punching, or other agreed processing.
- 06
Protect the zinc surface through bundle design, wrapping, nesting, and loading control.

Galvanized Steel Pipe RFQ FAQ
Answers are procurement guidance. Final compliance depends on the selected supplier, product scope, documents, and contract.
How should zinc coating be stated in a galvanized steel pipe RFQ?
State the applicable coating standard and whether the requirement is expressed as average mass in grams per square metre, local or average thickness in microns, or a corrosion-performance expectation. Also identify whether the value applies to the inside, outside, or complete surface and which test method will be accepted.
What is the buying difference between hot-dip and pre-galvanized pipe?
Pre-galvanized tube is formed from coated strip and commonly has a visible weld-zone treatment, while post-fabrication hot-dip galvanizing coats the completed tube. Suitability depends on exposure, fabrication, coating target, appearance, size range, and budget. The requested route should be named explicitly instead of treating both products as interchangeable.
How can galvanized pipe be protected during export loading?
Ask the supplier to confirm bundle weight, steel straps, separator use, waterproof wrapping, end protection, lifting method, ventilation and container loading plan. Zinc surfaces can be damaged by abrasion or prolonged moisture, so packing and loading evidence should be agreed before shipment rather than added after production.
Standards, listings, MTCs, coating records, inspection reports, and project references must belong to the applicable selected supplier and product scope.
